This includes environments with complex fire dynamics, new technologies, or rapidly evolving risks that require analytical design methods, scenario-based assessment, and deep understanding of fire physics.
IFAB Finland’s core areas of expertise include industrial facilities, underground construction, road tunnels, rail vehicles and rolling stock, as well as completely new and emerging fire risks such as lithium-ion batteries, energy storage systems (ESS), and modern electric mobility solutions. These applications require not only knowledge of existing standards but extensive experience in numerical simulation, experimental fire testing, and practical validation of design solutions.
The company works in close cooperation with IFAB GmbH in Germany, enabling access to international high-level expertise, specialised modelling tools, and large-scale fire testing capabilities.

The company is led by Managing Director Max Lakkonen, a widely recognised fire safety specialist with more than 20 years of international experience in performance-based design, risk analysis, lithium-ion battery safety, tunnel engineering, and challenging industrial applications.
